It’s All Geek to Me: The PoP!ulation
Whether we’re talking Boom Tubes or retcons, there’s plenty of jargon in our geekcentric little world. The PoP! Stars are here to ensure you’re not left scratching your head, saying “It’s All Geek to Me.”
PoP!ulation – n. The worldwide community fostered and built by the crew from PanelsOnPages.com
We throw the term PoP!ulation around a lot, but was does it mean and where did it come from? When we started Panels on Pages four years ago, we wanted to do things differently. Realistically, you can get the same kind of content we offer at a slew of other sites on the web, but we like to think we add a little flair that’s unique to PoP!. It was obvious right away that we had something special, and when you’ve got something special, people tend to catch on.
At this point, no one really remembers who coined the term “PoP!ulation” for our friends and family worldwide. Knowing how much he loves naming things, it was probably the esteemed Jason Kerouac, but who knows for sure? Mahoney might. Maybe I’ll ask him. What we do know is that the energy we bring to this endeavor, be it our extensive articles on the site, our newly-renovated PoP!-Cast Network of podcasts or the spectacle we bring to conventions is contagious. The PoP!ulation grows constantly from all corners of the globe (I just mailed merch to England!). We’re on twitter, facebook, we party outside of conventions whenever possible (looking at you, DisneyWorld) and we flood C2E2 with a sea of green T-Shirts on Saturdays.
The PoP!ulation is the least-exclusive clique on the planet. To quote the PoP!ulation’s Joshua Shaw “If Panels on Pages is a clique, they’re about as competent at managing a clique as Wizard is a comic convention.” We’re easy to find and easy to love (for the most part), so come say hi and join the PoP!ulation. Sign up for the forums. Find us on the twitter machines. Come see us at C2E2 Saturday on the variant stage for our take on Double Dare. Good things will happen. You should see it in person.
