PoP! Fangirl of the Month – July 2012

The PoP! Stars scour all of teh internetz in search of the most Fabulous Females of Fandom. Please keep it in your pants.

I was SUPPOSED to be going to conventions and using “Hey there, wanna be a Fangirl of the Month?” as a pickup line; instead, in the course of “the hunt,” I’m finding some delightfully dorky darlings to share with the PoP!ulation! Whatever works, right? Our newest recruit is Alyssa, and while she may not have read the midget’s script, she’s a legit fangirl through-and-through. And the fact that she’s just as lovely in a t-shirt and shorts as she is a skintight catsuit? Well, that’s just the icing on the cake! But enough idle chit chat, it’s time to meet…

Turn-Ons: Chubby nerdy guys, funny people, sarcasm, and people who are passionate about the things they like.. And CATS!

Turn-Offs: People that have no idea about nerdy stuff

What makes you a Fangirl? Ever since I can remember, I never quite fit in with other girls. I wasn’t that into the kind of things that other girls liked. I always tended to like “dorky” stuff and I’ve typically gotten along with guys more. Sometimes I was made fun of in school because I was a shy dork; I always felt better when I’d get home and watch something like Trek or Batman…  There are rare times I’ve met other nerdy girls like me and I’m very happy when that happens.

Well, welcome to the PoP!ulation. We’ve got a few girls in our midst you’re going to love! What’s one of your earliest Fangirl memories? I remember when I was about four or five watching Next Generation, and thinking that I really really REALLY liked Picard… I got this funny feeling when I looked at that sexy bald man. I wouldn’t stop talking to my mom about him and I drew lots of pictures of him.

I… did the same thing, actually.

::coughs::

So, what’s the most Fangirl-ish thing you’ve ever done? I walked around New York Comic Con for three days in a row in my skin tight Adam Hughes inspired Catwoman costume.

That takes some dedication! How’d you get into cosplay? My wonderful sweet nerdy fiancé encouraged me to get into cosplay. Before him I didn’t think I was sexy enough to slip myself into a catsuit.

Have you considered any other characters? Abbey Chase, Wonder Woman,  Black Canary, Zatana… but Catwoman had to be the first. I’m really in love with her.

Any reaction to the Catwoman #0 cover by Guillem March? She’s such a strong sexy character. Though I especially love Adam Hugh’s version of Catwoman; I wish I could be her.

What is your biggest geek-out moment? I was very excited when I went to a Kevin Smith book signing. I was also so nervous; he’s so nerdy and cute. I have a big crush on him. When it was my turn to go up to him I wasn’t sure what to say. He said he loved my name and he said he hardly ever saw my name unless he was writing it in a script. I said, “YES! I love Chasing Amy!” Then he told my fiancé that I was hot… For about a month after I kept saying to myself, “Kevin Smith thinks I’m hot!”

I know we’re all shocked that a fat and nerdy fanboy would find you hot LOL. So, what’s your wildest Fangirl dream? I would love to meet David Tennant… in my opinion he was the best doctor.

I can’t decide whether to fervently leap to the defense of Matt Smith or to act befuddled, as if I have no frame of reference; so I’ll just change the topic… How has being a Fangirl affected other aspects of your life? Everyone I work with knows me as the nerdy girl of the staff, any time nerdy stuff comes up I’m the first one they turn to for a question.

I think there are many members of the PoP!ulation who have become the expert on all things geeky in their respective workplaces. It’s nice to be needed, right? I love it, it’s so much fun.

Do you have any nerdy collections? Whiskey, lots of DVDs, books, Hello Kitty, and vinyl toys

So, where can people track you down? On my Facebook page or at NYC Comic Con… though soon I’d like to attend more conventions.

Hopefully, we’ll see you there! And that wraps things up with our July 2012 Fangirl of the Month, Alyssa!
