PoP! Top 6-Pack: Kickass Comic Moms
The PoP!-Stars narrow it down to the cream-of-the-crop in categories ranging from (but not limited to) Comics, Movies, Toys, and Geek Culture in general. This is the PoP! Top 6-Pack.
As part two of our Mother’s Day 6-Pack special, we’re bringing you the best moms in comic books.
6. Mystique – X-Men
As the mother of Nightcrawler, Graydon Creed, and an adoptive mother to Rogue, Mystique gets a spot at #6 on our list. Mystique wasn’t a great mom; she threw Nightcrawler down a well (only for him to be saved by his father, Azazel) and gave the fully human Graydon up for adoption. She even assassinated Graydon herself when his group, Friends of Humanity, posed a threat.
5. Jessica Jones – Alias
Superhero-turned-private detective Jessica Jones makes the list as mother to Danielle and wife to Luke Cage. Although Jessica has the abilities of flight and superhuman strength, she gave up the superhero business long before having her daughter. A former classmate of Peter Parker, he urges her to join the New Avengers, which she does, but she eventually leaves Avenger Mansion due to threats against her daughter.
4. Sue Storm/Invisible Woman – Fantastic Four
Wife to Reed Richards and mother to Franklin and Valeria, Sue Storm makes the list at #4. Her difficulties having two mutant children are a major part of Sue’s story. At one point she gives birth to her daughter twice thanks to Franklin saving her from death in an alternate reality.
3. Talia al Ghul – Batman: Son of the Demon
Talia al Ghul, mother of Damian Wayne, is the mother to Bruce Wayne’s secret child, the result of their brief marriage during Batman: Son of the Demon. She leaves her son at an orphanage with the name Ibn al Xu’ffasch. Later, the child is renamed Damian and joins the Batman family of crime fighters.
2. Sally Jupiter/Silk Spectre – Watchmen
The first Silk Spectre, Sally Jupiter is the ultimate pushy mom, forcing her young daughter to follow in her footsteps. Her daughter, Laurie Juspeczyk, takes her mother’s place as Silk Spectre until the passing of the Keene Act and again after the murder of The Comedian.
1. Lori Grimes – The Walking Dead
Oh, Lori Grimes, how people love to hate you in The Walking Dead TV show! Lori in the comic series, however, isn’t quite as… scatter-brained as her television counterpart. She’s far more devoted to Rick and to her family, and you better believe that she doesn’t let Carl run off by himself as much as he does in the show. [Spoiler] Sadly, Lori and baby daughter Judith meet their untimely fate at the hands of The Governor, leaving Carl in Rick’s care. [End spoiler]
