New Flix on Netflix – February 2012

We all know what Netflix is, but we never know what to watch. Without a great way to keep track of all the new titles available to watch instantly it’s pretty easy to overlook something awesome. But have no fear - Panels On Pages is here to keep you up to date on the coolest New Flix on Netflix.

The month of January started out pretty slow for new Netflix Instant material, but we wound up with some awesome new releases by the end! Fluff up your couch cushions, PoP!ulation, it’s time to see what’s available!

Workaholics – It’s like your own personal invitation to the Penthouse Penthouse. This comes highly recommended by the 11th Hour.

Supernatural – Don’t let the CW tag fool you: this show is fantastic, and now you can watch them all from the beginning.

Shaolin Soccer – Shaolin monks playing soccer, in a comedy/sports thriller? Yes. Yes. Watch this ASAP. It’s amazing.

The Punisher – The Thomas Jane/John Travolta entry from 2004, which I maintain is the best Punisher film. Tell me I’m wrong in the comments. (I’m not wrong.)

Made – Jon Favreau’s directorial debut, in which he and Vince Vaughn hang out with Puff Daddy. Sorry, P Diddy. Sorry, Diddy.

Boss - Kelsey Grammer won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of a crooked politician in this Starz series set in Chicago. As PoP!ulation member @Juswise points out, you only have until the Starz deal expires on February 28th to get through these episodes – better start watching!

United States of TaraPrincessCast host Spazzy has started watching it – don’t you want to be like her?

Hollow Man – Kevin Bacon turns himself invisible and goes crazy. The next time you need background noise, start here.

Psycho – the shot for shot remake of the classic horror film, starring Vince Vaughn, Anne Heche, Julianne Moore, Viggo Mortensen, and William H. Macy

Sliders – Jerry O’Connell stars in this show that you vaguely remember from your childhood/teen years.

Nick Kroll: Thank You Very Cool - Hey look, it’s that guy who looks like Thacher, from The League. I bet the jokes are twice as funny if you pretend he’s Thacher.

Nightwatch - Ewan McGregor, Nick Nolte, Patricia Arquette, and Josh Brolin in a movie about a morgue security guard who might be a serial killer? Interesting…

The Phantom - Before Billy Zane was doing shitty movies like Scorpion King 3, he was doing shitty movies like The Phantom.

Snake Eyes - Before Nicolas Cage was doing shitty movies like The Weather Man, he was doing shitty movies like Snake Eyes.

The Weather Man - The aforementioned shitty movie.

90210 – Impress your girlfriend with your knowledge of 30 somethings in high school! It can’t be too bad, PoP!ulation member Batman25JM watches it.

Babel – Look, I wouldn’t recommend watching it, but other people seem to like it. Wrong people. Who like bad things. But people.

There you have it PoP!ulation. Spread the word. Tell your friends. And stay up to date on all the releases that happen between now and next month by following our thread in the forums or by following the #NewFlixOnNetflix hastag on Twitter – you’ll get a head start on watching all the newest releases. Happy viewing!

A quick disclaimer – as some of these titles have just been released this morning, they may not be truly available to watch instantly until later in the day. Or maybe tomorrow. But they’ll be there. And when they’re there, you should watch them.

As I stated in the forums, The Weather Man is an underrated gem. But I agree that Snake Eyes is pretty terrible.

Also, Hollow Man had its moments. I can’t completely hate any Paul Verhoeven film…yes, even Showgirls.

  2. John-Michael (Batman25JM) says:

Supernatural really is fantastic. Anyone not watching it is only hurting themselves. And as for 90210, it’s pretty people with problems; what’s not to like about that? :)

I am so glad Supernatural made its way to Netflix. I have been wanting to watch it from the beginning and now I can… I now know what I will be doing tonight
