52 Pick-Up: Your COMPLETE Guide to the DC Relaunch!

Last week, DC announced that this September they will be relaunching their entire line of comics with 52 new #1s. As the days have gone DChas begun announcing those 52 titles, and we here at PoP! are giving you a one-stop place for all the real information on what DC is putting out this Fall. There’s tons of speculation, questions and assumptions out there, but keep watching this page as we update with the real deal from, straight from DC and their “The Source” blog. After all, no one plays 52-Pickup like PoP!, so let’s get started.

#1. Justice League: The first book to be released under this new era: Justice League No. 1, out Aug. 31. The series by writer Geoff Johns and artist Jim Lee reunites the famous lineup of Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Johns promises a focus on the interpersonal relationships within DC’s trademark superteam. “What’s the human aspect behind all these costumes? That’s what I wanted to explore,” he says. Comics superstars Geoff Johns and Jim Lee make history! In a universe where super heroes are strange and new, Batman has discovered a dark evil that requires him to unite the World Greatest Heroes! This spectacular debut issue is also offered as a special combo pack edition, polybagged with a redemption code for a digital download of the issue.

#2. Wonder Woman: New York Times bestselling writer Brian Azzarello, author of The Joker and 100 Bullets, teams up with the immensely talented artist Cliff Chiang (Neil Young’s Greendale) for WONDER WOMAN #1, an exciting new series starring the DC Universe’s greatest superheroine. #3. #4. #6. Hawkman: Batman writer Tony Daniel will team up with artist Philip Tan (GREEN LANTERN: AGENT ORANGE, THE OUTSIDERS) for THE SAVAGE HAWKMAN #1. Carter Hall’s skill at deciphering lost languages has led him to a job with an archeologist who specializes in alien ruins – but will the doctor’s latest discovery spread an alien plague through New York City? The cover to issue #1 is by Aaron Lopresti. With the growing presence of super beings around the world, the United Nations resolves to create a new group called Justice League International. #11. DC Universe Presents: The anthology series gets a new look in DC Universe Presents, a new series that will focus on multi-issue story arcs each featuring a different superhero from the DC Universe’s rich cast of characters, told by some of comics’ most exciting writers and artitsts. DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #1 kicks off the first arc of the series: a Deadman story by Paul Jenkins and Bernard Chang. The cover to issue #1 is by Ryan Sook. It’s the start of a new series spotlighting some of the DC Universes’s most exciting super heroes! First up is Deadman, straight from the pages of BRIGHTEST DAY, in a five-issue epic where the body-hopping hero meets his match in a new foe who wants to make sure the souls that Deadman helps out go straight to Hell!

#12. Green Lantern: Geoff Johns has been charting the adventures of Hal Jordan and the GREEN LANTERN Corps since GREEN LANTERN: Rebirth, collaborating with such major artists as Ethan Van Sciver, Darwyn Cooke, Prentis Rollins, Marlo Alquiza and Mick Gray. This fall, Johns reunites with artists Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy, as the series begins anew with GREEN LANTERN #1 with cover by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado. #16. Batman: In the first BATMAN #1 since 1930, New York Times bestselling writer Scott Snyder teams up with superstar artist Greg Capullo in his DC Comics debut! In the series, Bruce Wayne once again becomes the only character taking on the Batman name. Be here for the start of a new era for The Dark Knight from writer Scott Snyder (AMERICAN VAMPIRE, BATMAN: GATES OF GOTHAM) and artist Greg Capullo (Spawn)! #17. Detective Comics: DC Comics’ flagship title is relaunched for the first time ever in DETECTIVE COMICS #1 by acclaimed writer/artist Tony Daniel. Marking the first time Batman will appear in a debut issue of Detective Comics, the series will find Bruce Wayne on the trail of a dangerous serial killer known only as the Gotham Ripper. As The Red Hood once again, Jason Todd will lead this new team of antiheroes, including Green Arrow’s rejected sidekick Arsenal and Starfire, a former prisoner of intergalactic war. RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS will be written by Scott Lobdell and illustrated by rising superstar artist Kenneth Rocafort. No sooner has Batman’s former sidekick, Jason Todd, put his past as the Red Hood behind him than he finds himself cornered by a pair of modern day outlaws: Green Arrow’s rejected sidekick Arsenal, the damaged soldier of fortune, and the alien Starfire, a former prisoner of intergalactic war who won’t be chained again. #26. Batwing: This September, join with us in this historic moment when the first black character to wear the Batman mantle will be the first to star in his own ongoing series. BATWING will be written by Judd Winick and illustrated by Ben Oliver. Africa, a land of beauty – and of great horror. A land of creation and conflict. It is in desperate need of a defender, and from the ranks of Batman Incorporated comes a soldier to carry on the legacy of The Dark Knight in the most tumultuous region on Earth. Meet Batwing, the Batman of Africa!

Comic Book Resources announced last Tuesday that there would also be Teen Titans, Jusitce Society and “a Superman title to be written by Grant Morrison.” Speaking of Morrison, it was announced via DC’s Blog the source that Batman, Inc. would continue in 2012. “Batman, Incorporated will continue through to Issue #10 and August’s shocking season finale that changes the Batman status quo yet again,” Morrison told the Blog. “The series will take a brief hiatus while I work on a major new project to be announced shortly. Batman, Incorporated returns next year with me, Chris Burnham and Batman: Leviathan, the epic 12 part conclusion to my 6 year Batman saga. Don’t miss it!” It has also been rumored via Bleeding Cool that George Perez will be writing and drawing Superman #1.

Today, DC announced more titles via their “The Source” blog. The themed relaunch reveals continued, with today being focused on the teenaged heroes of the DCU.

#35. Legion Lost: Seven heroes from the 31st century have traveled back to the present day. Their mission: Save their future from total annihilation. When the future tech they brought with them fails, they find themselves trapped in a nightmarish world and an ultimate struggle to survive. LEGION LOST #1 will be written by Fabian Nicieza and illustrated by Pete Woods, fresh off an acclaimed run of Action Comics.

#36. Legion of Superheroes: In the 31st century, the Legion of Superheroes is reeling from the loss of seven of their finest — and trying desperately to keep their youngest recruits alive against a series of terrible new threats. With two days left in the week and 12 more titles to announce, DC may have their entire new roster revealed before their initial announcement of June 13th. Absent from today’s teenage books were fan favorites Jaimie Reyes (Blue Beetle) and Cassandra Cain (Black Bat, nee Batgirl), as well as Superboy and Supergirl. The later two will most likely be announced with Superman & Action, but the former two continue the grumblings of some fans who are unsatisfied with the treatment of more recent (and generally more diverse) DC characters as they appear to be given the backseat in favor of Silver Age versions of characters. Also absent is a third book written by Gail Simone (revealed via her twitter feed), the rumored/almost certain Justice Society book and the rumored Shazam book (which may or may not be the third Simone book). DC’s “The Source” Blog has once again been updated with seven new titles for the DC relaunch, these filed under the banner of “The Edge.”

Exploiting a back-door in DC servers, images of some of tomorrows announcements have been revealed, including a Superman book drawn by George Perez, Supergirl and Superboy. Including Action Comics, that accounts for the final four titles. Gail Simone confirmed on Twitter today that the Secret Six title is coming to an end and that the third series she’s working on will be a miniseries and not included in the “New #1′s” announcements, although that does mean that there will be some minis launched along with the 52 on-goings.

DC’s “The Source” Blog has updated with the four Superman family titles that will round out DC’s 52 all new ongoing series debuting in September. Also, in an email to retailers DC revealed ship dates for all titles as well as fuller solicits for some titles.
