Dead of Night: Werewolf by Night #4 (of 4)
By Dwayne Swierczynski and Mico Suayan
You’re not likely to hear the words “diehard Werewolf by Night fan” ever spouted in conversation. He’s one of those weird little ancillary characters that until he shows up, you pretty much forget he exists. He’s good for an appearance or two and then it’s back in the vault. This current mini is one HELL of a ride for old Jack. The whole thing has read like a great horror thriller and it ends with a bang here. Jack embraces the Beast in a pretty Hulk-ish moment and from there it’s a fight. There are some decent revelations, but since it’s Werewolf by Night, it’s not like it rocks you to the core, but it does add some spice to the mythos.
Speaking of mythos, there’s a weird Wereolf/Dracula/Frankenstein fight in the middle of the book that doesn’t actually involved Dracula or Frankenstein. Very weird. But in that good way. It’s a little tongue-in-cheek, but it works. All in all, it’s the best of the Dead of Night minis thus far and I’m already looking forward to the next one. They need Mico Suayan on it, whatever it may be. The art here is really great, especially on the monsters, and something tells me there may be some monsters involved in the next mini, too.
I give it 4.5 out of 5 badass little girls.
