Teen Titans #69

Super-team shakedowns abound in the DCU! Just recently in Justice League of America #31, the roster was gutted and now we get to see the Teen Titans make some changes as well.
In the final part of the 4-part “The New Deal” story arc, we have your standard issue of trying to get a team together. Wonder Girl, Blue Beetle, the now powerless Red Devil, Miss Martian, and Bombshell are the current group, but Wonder Girl offers up Titans Tower as a safe haven for a gaggle (yes, a gaggle) of other teen heroes. These disenfranchised youths were caught up in The Dark Side Club drama and WG ever so slyly mentions the possibility of them joining the team as well. A few of the heroes take offense to this generous offer and immediately walk out and by the issue’s end we’re left with only Aquagirl, Static and Kid Eternity agreeing to stay and join the team.
I have to say, the Face (who is a huge face where his torso should be) was a guilty pleasure in this issue. He was irritating and sexist and tried to sleep with all the female heroes and ultimately got punched out by Aquagirl and kicked out of the Tower. He reminded me of a young Guy Gardner! Those were the days… Hiding and watching the Titans from around the corner, the Face plans to teach them a lesson, but then we see him being attacked (and killed?) by the Tower itself. It’s ALIIIIIVE!! *cue Robot Chicken music* Of course, this last bit sets up the Titans “Deathtrap” crossover.
Overall, the issue was okay. We’ve established our new team and paved the way to “Deathtrap”. I can’t really ask for too much more from an issue that felt more like a placeholder than anything else. I’m not really impressed with the line-up (nothing can compare with the roster the book had when it launched in 2003), but I’m more than willing to give the book a shot and be won over.

Whomever they put on this title after McKeever will pretty much determine if I keep reading. If it’s not someone who is an already proven writer in my eyes I will not hesitate to drop it.
static? as in Static Shock? i know ive been out of the loop for awhile, but when did they bring him into the mainline DCU? i have some of his old books from his vertigo days, but never really heard of him after that show they did. weird.
just realized i said ‘vertigo” when i ment “milestone”. im an idiot.
