Superman/Batman – #57

sb57

Written by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, and Mike Johnson; ary by Whilce Portacio

This… was interesting.  The art is great.  Let me just say that.  Portacio’s on his game, as much now as ever.  The writing?  I’d have liked to see more of Batman and Superman playing off of each other.  As for the plot itself?  Interesting.  I’m not a fan of Prankster as a villain, I feel like he’s just a bargain basement Toyman.  With that said, he’s just a MacGuffin here, so who cares?

The issue drags a bit, as it is merely the first chapter of the latest arc and all set-up for the adventures of microscopic Superman and Batman.  It does say something, however, when the reveal of the title of the arc – Nanopolis – is my favorite part of the issue. 3 out of 5 lilliputians with the hope the arc will pick up a bit next issue.

Who ARE these people!?

Jason Kerouac is a co-founder of Panelsonpages.com. He spends roughly half of his waking life in servitude to the Giraffe. Raised in a town in New Hampshire you've never heard of, he now lives in Indianapolis, IN and is pretty sure that's a step in the right direction.

I was Johnson would just go back to taking full control of the book. Only tackling part of the writing duties loses that awesome juxtaposition we saw in the Search for Kryptonite arc

Actually disregard that post… I wish GREEN would go back to writing duties.

YES! That is the best aspect of Superman/Batman, and it was totally missing here. Maybe we’ll get it back next ish, or maybe that’s what Green brought to the table.

I think it was Green’s way of writing. The two or three arcs since then haven’t shown any seen of that style.
