Burn Notice - Season 4, Premiere, “Friends and Enemies”

May 27th, 2010 | By Jason Kerouac | Category: Reviews, TV

“Well, things have changed!”

They certainly have, haven’t they Michael? And yet the more things change, the more they seem to stay the same. Season four picks up, not surprisingly, right were season three’s cliffhanger left off. There’s no One Year Later-like time jump… this episode opens as Michael surveys his posh surroundings and begins to piece together just what’s happened to him. Is he in deep, or finally out of the cold? Or maybe a little from column a, and a little from column b?

The premiere delivers everything you’ve come to expect from Burn Notice - high octane action, witty repartee, and of course, clients. Michael makes his way back to Sam and Fi just in time to become embroiled in the episode’s A plot, leading to the line of the night: “I have a loaded machine pistol in my hand, and I have no idea what I’m doing.” I think we’ve all had those days. Am I right? Eh? … no? Okay, then. Moving on…

If you’ve been watching the show, “Friends and Enemies” won’t shock you - there’s still action, comedy, and romance; there’s still an over-arcing story behind the season as a whole and individual adventures, episode to episode. That doesn’t mean it won’t keep you entertained and on the hook, however, waiting for more. The cast delivers some of the best performances we’ve seen from them, and Michael’s reunions with the women of his life especially steal the show. Things have changed this season, and business -clearly - is about to pick up.

The season four premiere of Burn Notice gets 5 out of 5 drones. They’re better.

Burn Notice is back, Thursday nights at 9 EST - stay tuned! And for reviews, interviews, and a chance to get your hands on a Burn Notice prize pack, keep it tuned to Panels on Pages.

  1. This has got to be one of the best shows on cable tv right now. Its fun, its fast, and its perfect for summer (honestly whats better than watching a tv show with hot women, fast cars, and some serious spy stuff.) Last season’s ending was a big cliff hanger and I cant wait for this show to come back on air.

Im just looking forward to some more Michael/Company interaction….

  2. Love this show. Can NOT get enough of Michael and company. Am so excited about Season 4. I was nervous at first about new faces/relationships but lately I’ve been encouraged b y what I’ve been reading. Besides - I simply have to trust someone as clever as Matt Nix; a genius in my opinion! An accomplishment such as this first time out of the gate - amazing!!!

  3. love this show. cant wait to see what they have in store for number 4. and i hope there is alot more seasons to come. great show and never gets old. they always have different scenes and you never know what is going to happen.

  4. i’m just damn glad the show is back
the show will be renewed for two more seasons.

  5. Yeah….I really enjoy Burn Notice just like everyone does, but I’m not certain that Matt Nix is such the genius, considering that he’s clearly based his Michael Weston character on a former Special Ops person by the name of Michael Kessler. Poor Michael Kessler ,though, wasn’t as smart as his fictional character, Michael Weston, but I am totally enjoying all the similarities to Michael Kesslers life, as well as the obvious differences. Well done Matt.

  6. i’ve been trying to contact matt nix to thank him for creating such a great show….love the whole cast…wish Victor hadn’t been killed, his interaction with Michael was fun. But what I love about the show is I can watch any episode with my kids and teenage grandkids and don’t have to fast forward thru any sex scenes, f-words etc…Three generations can watch and enjoy the action and humor!!! Good job, Matt, keep it up!

  7. Glad to see My show back ! a wonderful show hope it pick up a award one day.

  8. Premiere was great! I especially liked when Fi punched Michael. *grin*

  9. I love the show, but think the “management” must be less sinister if it has U.S. backing–obviously or Michael wouldn’t have been removed from the FBI. Even MacGyver had the Phoenix Foundation–it is resonable that we need top agents whose hands aren’t tied–espeically in these politcally charged and terrorist times–but Vaughn needs to be able to convince Michael that this U.S. backed organizaiton is for the general good–and safeguards are in place, beginning with Michael’s recruitment–that this organization represents American values and that Carla was a fluke. Who is watching management to insure they don’t recurit more Carlas? And how is it all being kept secret? The show is based on the idea that Black Ops are frequent and their own institution without any oversight-that is a huge indictment of our governemnt and our values-this needs to be corrected in the show.
