Riddle Me This! Could the Juggernaut Punch His Way Through the Earth?

Who’d win in a fight between Superman and Spawn? How the f*ck old is Cable? And what in the holy hell is a Megatron? When the tough questions arise, Panels on Pages will gather the facts, but it’s up to the PoP!ulation to draw its own conclusions. So come on… Riddle Me This.

Wait... is this actual proof that he can? We’ve all heard the line. No, not “I’m the Juggernaut, bitch.” I was referring to “the unstoppable Juggernaut.” Unstoppable. It’s had a lot of interpretations over the years. When Cain Marko first accessed the power of the Ruby Gem of Cyttorak, it transformed him and gave him superhuman strength and durability, and an ability to “never be stopped once in motion.” Over the years, Juggernaut’s strength has been shown to rival the Hulk’s and his invulnerability has been augmented by a mystical force field. Does he have the sheer might to punch through layer after layer of earthen crust and molten lava? Indubitably.

Still, there have been instances of Juggernaut feeling pain, and few things would hurt more than the heat of the Earth’s core. Then take into account Cyttorak’s penchant for tugging at his examplar’s strings and reducing or stripping him entirely of his power, and… well – let’s just say I wouldn’t want to run out of steam three miles down.

Obviously, this is all fiction. Every such question has only one true answer: “Juggernaut can do whatever the writer and artist decide they’re going to make him do.” There will always be an explanation. It’s just that some are better than others, and some things are just unforgivable. But we’re not worried about the whys wherefores right now. This is just a question of possiblity. So…

Please, leave your responses below – get as in depth with your analysis or as brief with your answer as you want.

Something puzzling you? PoP! the question at RMT@panelsonpages.com.
Maybe we’ll run your question in the future. Maybe there will be prizes to be had. Maybe I’m amazed at the way you love me all the time.

  2. Tomer Soiker says:

Not if there’s a Taco Bell in his way. Cain will just stop there and forget his target.

  3. Elmo Machete says:

I’d guess not, because I’m not sure how well the “unstoppable when in motion” thing would work if he was just punching downwards.

  4. LordD3r3k says:

I think he’d punch through the layers just fine, but the real problem would be when he hits the molten core. It’s not like he can punch through liquid, and I don’t know how plausible it is to swim through.

Since playing X-Men Legends II, and hearing Juggs voiced by John Dimaggio, some part of my brain will now and forever relate him to his shiny, metal, identical voiced cousin, Bender Bending Rodriguez. Now with that corelation in mind, I have to belive that if there is something worth stealing or an excess of booze needing to be consumed on the other side, then NOTHING could stop the ole shell head from getting through. Not rock, lava, mole men, or even the Technodrome ( cuz trust me, it’s still cruising around down there.)

  6. comedianviet says:

I remember from some Deadpool comics in the 90′s where he was fighting Juggs. Deadpool dumped a vat of lava-like stuff on Juggs thinking that stopped him only to have an angry Juggernaut on fire running after him. As long as his powered stuck with him I think he could do it.

    • Jason Kerouac says:

Comedianviet, that was the second Deadpool mini-series, seen here. And yes, it was a giant vat of molten steel.

There IS a considerable difference between a wave of melted metal and a sea of lava though… hmm… continue. I like where this is going.

  7. LordD3r3k says:

Yeah, molten steel and the earth’s core aren’t even comparable. Truthfully, what we’re asking here is if Juggernaut could withstand coming in contact with the outer layer of the sun, which is about the equivalent. Now, in a recent Spiderman issue, we just saw Captain Universe melt Juggernaut’s helmet. Granted, this is all comic science and whatnot, but I’m guessing CU’s powers are cosmic in nature, which takes on properties of the cosmos’, which (in my mind) makes it comparable to other characteristics of the galaxy. That being, the heat he emitted to melt Juggy’s helmet is relative to the core of a planet.

Based on this arguement, the question then becomes “can Juggernaut withstand such extreme heat after his armor has melted off?”

    • Jason Kerouac says:

It’s so tricky, because they’ve been so inconsistent with him over the years. By some accounts, he’s indestructible. Other times, Spider-Man can whup him. WHO KNOWS!?

  8. blackhart23 says:

I think he could but only if he had momentum, take a ramp and direct it straight at the ground at the equator and make it very high. Put Juggernaut at the top and let him run down judging by the power he has shown at his peak I think he would smash through the earth in about an hour.

  9. lordd3r3k says:

So is that what we’re saying here, that Juggernaut can withstand the sun’s surface? I’m not saying can’t.. I honestly have no idea. But I can’t imagine too many non-cosmic characters being able to do this

    • Jason Kerouac says:

The way I look at it, the Juggernaut’s power is mystical in nature, and where magic is involved, all bets are off. I’m willing to believe Doctor Strange in his heyday could have put the Avengers in a bubble and flown them through the sun if need be, so yes, I’m willing to believe that Juggernaut could physically withstand the temperatures.

Now, here’s a question… when wade dumps the molten steel on him, doesn’t he scream? Could he feel the heat? Because, even if his body didn’t incinerate, walking through the core of the Earth/surface of the sun could cause Cain more pain than a human being could withstand.

This then raises the question, would the spell of Cyttorak protect him against the pain? Would he feel it, but still be able to handle it?

  10. lordd3r3k says:

    Magic.. such a curious mistress

  11. Robert Eddleman says:

Something else to consider: Juggy also has an impenetrable force field he can activate. He rarely uses it because his regular durability is so good. One of the only times I can think of is when Spidey crashed an 18-wheeler full of gasoline into him. Since Wade surprised him with the molten steel, he didn’t use it then. But if he knew it was coming in advance, that probably wouldn’t even have touched him.

    • Jason Kerouac says:

God I hate that the force field exists. But, it does. It looks like we’re leaning heavily towards a yes on this one, folks!

  12. LordD3r3k says:

Where is all that displaced dirt going to go?

  13. blackhart23 says:

Up, like a magic psychotic shovel, made out of magically empowered mutant hands.

    • Jason Kerouac says:

I don’t care that Juggernaut’s not a mutant (in the 616 at least), THAT might be the best sentence I’ve ever read.

  14. blackhart23 says:

    I forgot he wasn’t a mutant.

  15. BlueMaxx says:

What about gravity? The center of any planet has a tremendous amount of gravity. Momentum and motion are only relative to this. So, if he made it to the center, wouldn’t he get stuck, or a rubberband effect of snapping back and forth yet still technically be stuck?

    • Jason Kerouac says:

But his power is mystical in nature. Would it not supercede the science of the Earth’s gravitational core? If magic says “Once in motion, he can’t be stopped,” then why should the gravity of the Earth’s core be a more effective scientific force than the strength of the Hulk, for example?

  16. DragonEyez says:

Juggernaut is STOPPABLE. His my #1 villian but when he met Gladiator during the phoenix sagas of x-men. not only did he not momve gladiator a inch but he got thrown half way across the ocean so unstoppable is hardly a word they should throw around when talking bout the juggernaut.

    • Jason Kerouac says:

Good call, Dragon. Seems unstoppable was really only applicable back int he oooooooold days. Since then, even though some writers TRY to bring it back into play, he’s become much more stoppable.

      Man I love this…
